Getting the gig or Opportunity.

Something that is often overlooked is very often the person most prepaired gets the gig, not the best player. I have found this out over the years. The person that comes prepaired, plays well, and has a “workable” attitude will most often get the gig. Bands want someone who cares enough to prepair, learn the material, and is ready to start playing. So many people take the attitude that they will learn it all IF they get the gig, but I ask you, would it really hurt you to learn the songs and be ready even if you did not get it? I have found many times songs I learned for a different reason was much to my benefit later on. It never hurts to learn new material, it’s just make us better overall.
